The fourth floor stacks in the library are horrendous. Maybe one day I’ll write a letter, when I have the time or when my dissatisfaction gets the best of me.
I appreciated Whitney Jo coming to talk today. Pursuing a professional acting or theatre career is not the most stable of endeavors. I don’t think artists can help but hang on every word of the stories of personal fulfillment and success that come trickling down from the people that have stuck with it.
If I could do something else I would. I’ve tried several times to convince myself that I could be happier doing something, anything else. I’m a person who enjoys stability and certainty. For the first time in my life I feel like my heart is overpowering my logic.
Things I’ve seriously considered/researched pursuing after I discovered my passion for theatre:
Veterinarian (small animal)
Neuropsychologist
Industrial Psychologist
Registered Nurse
Law
Horticulturalist/ entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship
Getting a business degree
Teaching higher education
Scientific research in ANY field (except geology, of course)
Broadcasting

It doesn’t make sense to go into a field where the majority of the people do not have a theatrical job. (I couldn’t find the figure, but I know that’s outrageous)
Thank Dionysus that I don’t live and breathe to be on stage.
Thank Dionysus that I don’t live and breathe to be on stage.
So, thanks to all of the cliché inspirational concepts that people like to throw down before the youth. I’ll take all the inspiration and encouragement I can get.
I feel like this is worth mentioning:
My friend Will, a very wise man, is currently pursuing communications degree with a film concentration.
While talking about transferring somewhere with an actual film program to pursue this passion, he said to me, “Now, if I’m going to get, forgive me but, a worthless degree, I want to get the right worthless degree.”

and to tie it all up in a nice package, since i agree with the later and am glad for you concerning the former:
"suppose you're in love and someone's mistreating you, you don't say, "Hey, you can't hurt me this way, I care!" you just let all the different bodies fall where they may, and they always do may after a few months. But that's not why you fell in love in the first place, just to hang onto life, so you have to take your chances and try to avoid being logical. pain always produces logic, which is very bad for you."

enjoy :)
Will is a very wise man, and you are, too, Miranda. I have several very worthless degrees, and yet, I am hanging on to the hope that if I can add one more to the mix, it will be the right mix. In the zig zags of life, I am not content to connect the dots in numerical order. Go from 2 to 29 to 12 and see what life brings.

Miranda I have done the saame thing. From the time I was four watching my favorite show (dexter's labortory)I always wanted to be a scientist. But unlucky for me I didn't have a field that really drew me in. I jumped back and forth from one field to the next based on what has happened in my life then in 8th grade I decided I wanted to design video games and computer programs(computer science). That has been my sticking point I bounced around a few times to other careers I even looked into law enforcement(with as much stuff I do yeah right) and pre-med. everytime I came back to computer science the one thing I understand better than how to ############ yeah don't want to tell on myself just yet lol.
ReplyDeleteSome wise old guy some where once said if you do what you love you never work a day in your life. Whitney Jo said that she didn't make a lot of money but she stayed because she loved her job. Lucky for me Game designers make a amazing amount of money(if their game is good and they are the lead programmer.
